In 2020, I retired from teaching art and English in the Columbus area and began a new career illustrating Ohio’s wildlife. The advice to “write what you know” holds true for artists as well. I illustrate the wildlife in my local environment. My subjects come from my backyard, the metro parks, the zoo, and from local media stories.

My illustrations appear in numerous science based books and in several Columbus galleries.
I do commission work for your favorite wildlife anywhere in the world.

I spend 40 hours on a piece. I work about 4 hours a day in my home studio.
I use watercolor pencil on various types of paper. I usually work on 16 x 20 paper, and don’t exceed 20 x 24. The image has to be large enough to show detail but not too large for the capability of pencil. Pencils are great for detail because you can sharpen them to a fine point.
My style is not photo-realistic, but I do want to accurately depict wild animals. Most people never get to see these animals up close. Wildlife is elusive, and my art gives people a chance to closely examine wildlife.
